The Decaffeinated Conchord

L’Homme qui Plantait des Arbres (The Man who Planted Trees)

My favorite Montreal artist, Frederic Back, gave life to french author Jean Giono’s touching story L’Homme qui Plantait des Arbres in a 1987 animated film under the same name.

The film tells the story of Elzeard Bouffier, a lonely sheperd living in a desolute little village in the french Alps, who single handedly brings life back to his village by planting acorns.

This is one of the few films in which both the art and the plot of the story touches you- it is truly an exquisite piece of moving paintings and narrative film.
